Why is tummy time important?
Tummy time is crucial since birth. Tummy time allows babies to strengthen their back, neck and core to prepare them to reach very important milestones. It is never too early to start tummt time. Ideally from the first day of birth, some pediatricians suggest after the umbilical cord has fallen off ( we don’t want to irritate it).
Don’t forget to give baby “their” play time during their awake time.
When traveling depending on length of trip and flight you want to make sure to give baby time to stretch. Being constrained for such a long period of time can definately cause the baby to become irritable. Aside from bringing half of your house when traveling with baby, ☝🏼don’t forget a floor blanket or mat. The one pictured was our backup I would suggest one that is easy to tell which side goes on the floor and which side doesn’t. We used this one once and then put it in a plastic bag to wash since both sides look the same and there’s lots of germs on the floor of an airport! We recently bought this one for future trips. It has great reviews!
Having a blanket and some toys allow the baby to stretch, play, and get their much needed floor play time. It’s good for mom because it’s a great opportunity to get the baby tired and hopefully they will rest on the plane or trip. 😴 I know how challenging it can be traveling with a baby and this helped us! On all four flights Santi was content or sleeping. He enjoyed tummy time at the airport, stretching and observing his surroundings. Made me so happy ☺️
